Enviro Control Private Limited – 160 MLD Ceramic UF Water Treatment Plant
Advanced Water Automation with Siemens S7-1500 & WinCC SCADA
The Challenge:
Enviro Control, a major player in India’s water infrastructure sector, undertook a landmark project to upgrade the existing drinking water treatment facility at Rander, Surat. The objective was to convert a 50 MLD conventional plant into a 160 MLD ceramic ultrafiltration (UF) based system under similar site conditions. Given the critical nature of continuous municipal water supply and large-scale processing operations, the project required a highly reliable and efficient plant-wide automation system. The main challenge was to implement a control system that:
-
Can ensure uninterrupted plant operation through a reliable PLC + SCADA control system throughout the upgrade and implementation phase.
-
Control and optimize complex ceramic UF-based treatment processes through advanced automation strategies at high plant capacity.
-
Maintain the quality of purified water continuously through precise monitoring and control, ensuring turbidity ≤ 0.5 NTU.
-
Enable centralized monitoring and control with seamless integration with city-level ICCC for real-time operation and supervision.
The Solution:
Velox Automation provided a robust PLC + SCADA-based control system tailored to Enviro Control's operational requirements. This solution was implemented using a Siemens S7-1500 PLC and WinCC Professional SCADA integrated into the TIA Portal, forming the basis of complete plant control.
Advanced automation logic was developed for ceramic UF processes, including filtration cycles, backwashing, and plant-wide operations. A centralized SCADA system was installed for real-time monitoring, control, and visualization of the entire plant. MIS reporting was deployed for performance tracking and operational insights, while secure connectivity to the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) enables centralized supervision at the city level. Complete application software development, system integration and commissioning were carried out by the Velox Automation team, ensuring smooth implementation without disruption to plant operations.
Why Velox Solutions Makes Sense
For the Client:
This implementation yielded measurable and lasting benefits. Established a new benchmark in municipal water treatment. The uninterrupted operation of the plant ensured continuous water supply throughout the operation. Maintaining consistent purified water quality with turbidity of 0.5 NTU or less improved reliability and compliance. Centralized PLC + SCADA control increased operational visibility, efficiency, and response time, while ICCC integration enabled real-time monitoring and rapid decision-making. With the successful commissioning, Enviro Control now operates a high-capacity, fully automated and intelligent water treatment facility.
For the Environment:
At Velox, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. In this project, we used smart automation with advanced ceramic ultrafiltration technology to use fewer chemicals and make the process work better. Efficient use of existing infrastructure reduced environmental impact and land use, while adaptive control ensured resilience to climate-driven water quality changes. This project enables reliable access to safe drinking water, supporting public health and sustainable urban development. At Velox, we are committed to delivering solutions that enhance operational performance, contributing to a more sustainable future.
